Barrow County Clerk of Superior Court

Barrow County's court-record custodian is Janie J. Jones, Clerk of Superior, State and Juvenile Courts. The official Clerk page explains that Georgia Clerks of Superior Court have been elected county constitutional officers since 1798 and serve four-year terms. The point is practical for records users: the Clerk is the business arm and permanent record custodian for multiple courts, not merely a county department or a judicial employee.

The Clerk's Office is in Suite B at the Barrow Park Drive court complex. It is grouped with Superior Court, State Court, Juvenile Court, Probate Court, Magistrate Court, prosecutors, and the public defender. Court-document open-records requests are routed directly to the Clerk at 770-307-3035 or jjjones@barrowga.org. The same phone line is also the State Court Clerk contact in the researched court table.

Barrow County Clerk Court Records

The Clerk maintains Superior Court and Juvenile Court records, files criminal cases, maintains criminal warrants, and transmits documents to GCIC, DDS, and DOR. The office also transmits appeals to the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Civil filings include divorce and annulment, adoptions, child support, name changes, habeas corpus, suits for damages, garnishments, and repossessions. Probate and marriage license files are separate, even though the Clerk handles divorce cases.

The Clerk also records real estate transactions, including warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, security deeds, assignments, right-of-way deeds, easements, plats, and powers of attorney. Other recorded documents include fifas, military discharges, trade names, UCCs, mechanic liens, property tax liens, and hospital or doctor liens. These land and lien records are not the same as court case files, but they often matter when a judgment, garnishment, or property dispute must be traced.

For Barrow County records work, the office boundary is as important as the title. A court charge, warrant filing, civil judgment, divorce decree, or appeal record points back to the Clerk once the matter is filed in court. An incident report, accident report, arresting-agency narrative, or booking record points to the Sheriff's Office or a city police records process. An estate, guardianship, certified marriage copy, birth record, or death record points to Probate Court. Keeping those three channels separate prevents a records request from being sent to the wrong counter.

  • Superior Court records, including felony, divorce, equity, and many civil matters.
  • State Court records, including misdemeanors and county traffic matters.
  • Juvenile Court records, subject to confidentiality limits.
  • Criminal warrants, filings, and required transmissions to state agencies.
  • Real estate, lien, trade-name, UCC, military discharge, and deed records.

Request Barrow County Certified Copies

Certified court copies are ordered through the Clerk because the online search and online printing rules do not create an official certificate by themselves. The research did not locate a dedicated court-record PDF request form for Clerk case copies. Instead, the county open-records page gives direct instructions for court-document requests: contact the Clerk of Superior Court at 770-307-3035 or jjjones@barrowga.org. Incident, accident, arrest, or booking records use the Sheriff's Office records path, not the Clerk case-copy path.

A useful request should name the court, the case type, the parties, and the document needed. For example, a divorce decree request should identify the Superior Court civil case, while a State Court misdemeanor or traffic request should identify the citation or case number if known. If a record is sealed, juvenile, adoption-related, or contains protected identifiers, the public copy may omit details or require a court order before release.

  1. Identify the court and record type, such as Superior Court divorce, State Court traffic, or criminal case filing.
  2. Collect the case number if known, plus party names and approximate filing year.
  3. Contact the Clerk by phone, email, fax, or in person to confirm whether the record is public and copyable.
  4. Ask whether the copy must be certified and what payment method applies.
  5. Use the Sheriff's records process only for law-enforcement reports, not court filings.

Barrow County Clerk E-Filing

Civil filings use eFile New Civil Cases, Odyssey eFileGA, or PeachCourt links in the Clerk research set. Criminal and State Court filings use EZ-File Criminal and State Court. E-filing is about submitting pleadings and case documents. It does not replace the public case search, and it does not turn a restricted record into a public file. Users should treat e-filing portals as filing tools and the Clerk as the copy and record custodian.

PeachCourt is shown in the assigned image from the PeachCourt e-filing portal.

The e-filing image supports the filing channel, while record copies and certified records still route through the Clerk's Office.

Note: Probate filings, marriage records, and vital-record questions belong with Probate Court rather than the Clerk's case-search workflow.
